Anestis Koutsoudis received his Bachelor of Science (Hons) Computer Studies (Visualisation) from the University of Derby and his Master of Science in Multimedia Technology from the Computer Science Department of the University of Bath. In 2010, he received his PhD on “3D Content-based retrieval and MPEG-7 metadata” from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Democritus University of Thrace. Since his undergraduate studies, he has been working in the area of software engineering and computer graphics and since 2006, he is working in the Athena Research and Innovation Centre. Currently, he holds a research director position, and he is also the head of the Clepsydra digitisation lab.
Over the last two decades, he has participated in many research and development projects funded by national and EU resources as the coordinator, principal investigator, or as a scientific team member. These projects were focused on areas such as real time 3D graphics programming, terrestrial and aerial automated 3D digitisation of artefacts, urban areas, monuments and architecturals, 3D printing, 3D content analysis, information retrieval, multimedia technologies, VR, HCI and IT applications in the cultural heritage and education domains.
He is a reviewer in international scientific journals and conferences, and he also participates in journal editorial boards and conference scientific committees. He was a teaching staff member of the postgraduate course “Applied Archaeological Sciences” of the University of the Aegean. He participates in undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation and PhD committees. He also supervises the working placements of visiting students. He is a senior member of the IEEE Computer Society and a member of the Hellenic Informatics Union, a founding member of the Athena RC Researchers Association and a member of the GSRI, ELIDEK and Fund For Scientific Research evaluators register.
